How long should a personal injury claim take?

Hi all How long roughly should a personal injury claim take to complete? Mine has been ongoing since October 2006, it is in regards to a neck injury from a car crash. I was seen by a doctor this October. Alix x I am aware that the other insurers have admitted they are at fault.

  1. Mine took 2 years.
  2. I had a similar claim, car crash/whiplash etc and it took 3.5 yrs to come through.
  3. They can take ages and ages. I have seen some that go on for five years. xxR
  4. It can vary dependant on the severity of the injury, and the speed of the correspondance between your lawyers and your Drs, insurance company etc, amoungst other things. Medical records alone can take months to arrive, as a lot of them still have to be photocopied from the days pre-computer. They will also be sending off for Police records of the accident, and fighting with the other side's insurers as well, who will naturally be dragging their heels. Your lawyers should be keeping you informed on a regular basis though. Give them a call if you are concerned about time scale but it doesn't seem like it's been that long to me.
  5. mine took 2 yrs so uv got a bit of a wait.
  6. UK you have up to 5 years before time out is called. Keep on to the insurers so you know what is happening.
  7. It can take as long as it takes. 2 years is sometimes a SHORT time... I have a friend who's son broke his leg... the doctor who set the leg put the cast on too tight which ended up resulting in the total amputation of the leg from just above the knee. My friend sued (her son was a minor at the time)--16.... FIVE YEARS later, they still hadn't settled...... Well, the guy had a LOT of emotional baggage because of his amputated leg and ended up committing suicide.... the initial lawsuit on the leg was FINALLY SETTLED over 8 YEARS later...... Lawyers and defendents can keep cases going on for what seems like forever... they stall in order to try to get the defendents to ACCEPT lower monitary awards.....
